Your suggested GLSS pathway
Start here. Build practical foundations.
Find your Yellow Belt pathway.
Choose a GLSS learning route for your experience, goals and preferred delivery. New to Lean Six Sigma? Yellow Belt is a practical starting point for contributing to improvement work.
Which starting point fits you?
Experience shapes your preparation. Previous training or certification can be reviewed before agreeing your next GLSS programme.
| Your starting point | Suggested GLSS route | Preparation and next step |
|---|---|---|
| New to the methodology | Yellow Belt foundations: 32 live hours. | Learn the core concepts, practise process mapping and basic measurement, then prepare for your chosen assessment. |
| Practical experience | Yellow Belt foundations with workplace application. | Use your experience in exercises. Practical experience alone does not show complete syllabus coverage. |
| Some previous training | Prior-learning review and a proposed gap-focused plan. | Share your syllabus and completion record. Agree missing learning and pace with GLSS; the full 32-hour programme remains an option. |
| YB training completed | Training-evidence review and exam preparation. | Map your previous learning to the selected body’s current syllabus. Discuss any refresher needs before booking an exam. |
| Already certified YB | Refresh and apply your skills, or progress towards GB. | For project or career progression, ask GLSS to confirm GB entry and plan the additional 40-live-hour GB programme. |
Learning hours and certification choices
GLSS Yellow Belt: 32 live hours. PeopleCert’s January 2026 syllabus recommends 16 accredited training hours for YB and specifies no formal exam entry criteria or training requirements. The scheme reference and GLSS programme duration describe different things.
| Certification | Exam prerequisites | Assessment and preparation |
|---|---|---|
| PeopleCert / IASSC | No formal entry criteria or training requirements. | 60 questions, 120 minutes, closed book, 70% pass mark. Use the current syllabus and reference-document rules. |
| ILSSI | The reviewed exam page does not state a prior-belt entry policy. Confirm current conditions with GLSS / ILSSI. | 50 multiple-choice questions, 1 hour. A Greek exam is listed; confirm language and booking arrangements. |
| CSSC | Standard YB exam | No exam prerequisites; no project requirement. | Single standard exam: 50 questions, 1 hour, open book. Intended for candidates familiar with the YB Body of Knowledge. |
| ASQ CSSYB | No experience or education requirements. | Follow ASQ’s current Body of Knowledge and exam rules. Ask GLSS about preparation alignment; ASQ awards its own certification. |
Confirm the awarding body, assessment, language, exam inclusion and any additional fees with GLSS before booking. Course attendance and an independently awarded certification are separate milestones.

Training-hour references for planning
Programme hours describe the selected GLSS offering. Upgrade routes build on previous learning; Manufacturing and Services include foundations from scratch. Certification-scheme guidance is reviewed separately.
| Source / meaning | Yellow Belt | Green Belt | Black Belt |
|---|---|---|---|
| PeopleCert / IASSC Qualification-scheme training hours | 16 hours Foundations; Define, Measure, Control. | 80 hours Core to advanced DMAIC. Accredited training is recommended. | 120 hours Advanced DMAIC capability. |
| CSSC Provider-accreditation minimum student contact hours | 20 hours minimum | 35 hours minimum | 95 hours minimum |
| GLSS programme offerings | Yellow Belt: 32 live hours. | Yellow Belt to Green Belt: 40 hours. Green Belt Manufacturing: 80 hours. Green Belt Services: 60 hours. | Green Belt to Black Belt: 50 hours. Black Belt Manufacturing: 120 hours. Black Belt Services: 100 hours. Classroom or real project required for all BB routes. |
PeopleCert syllabus v1.1, January 2026, §1.1 lists 16/80/120 hours; §5 specifically recommends 80 accredited training hours for GB, while §4.3 lists no exam prerequisites. CSSC’s hours concern provider accreditation; its Standard GB exam has no training prerequisite.
ILSSI’s FAQ describes duration as dependent on the level, provider and delivery method; no universal hourly minimum was identified there. ASQ’s reviewed CSSGB eligibility page specifies qualifying experience rather than a training-hour threshold. Black Belt is shown for progression context, not as an entry recommendation from this GB finder.
Compare certification options
Choose your examination route separately from your GLSS programme. The CSSC Standard GB exam is an assessment option, distinct from the three GLSS offerings above.
| Certification option | Entry requirements | Assessment | Best fit to explore |
|---|---|---|---|
| PeopleCert / IASSC GB | No formal certification prerequisites; prior YB certification is not required. | 100 questions; 3 hours; closed-book. The current syllabus recommends 80 hours of accredited GB training. | You want this credential and can prepare across the full GB syllabus. |
| ASQ CSSGB | 3 years of relevant full-time, paid work; no educational waiver. | Examination against ASQ’s CSSGB Body of Knowledge. | Your work experience qualifies and your professional goal calls for ASQ. |
| ILSSI LSS Green Belt | No fixed work-experience threshold in the FAQ. Confirm direct GB entry and YB requirements. | 100 multiple-choice questions; 2 hours. English and Greek options are listed. | You want an ILSSI credential; compare the language and syllabus with your learning needs. |
| ILSSI GB for Services | Confirm entry rules for this specific variant with ILSSI / GLSS. | 100 multiple-choice questions; 2 hours. Listed in English. | You work in services, telecom, banking or administrative operations; check the variant’s syllabus. |
| CSSC Standard GB exam | No prerequisites or project requirement for standard GB. | 100 questions; open-book; 2 hours. | Already trained, strong GB knowledge, seeking one certification and comfortable with a timed exam. |
ILSSI direct-entry prerequisites are not specified on the reviewed exam pages, so this guide asks you to confirm them. CSSC standard Green Belt is distinct from its project-based Level II credential.
