Design for Six Sigma (DFSS): DMADV

Design new products, services and processes that satisfy customers from day one. The DMADV method for when there is no process to improve, but something new to design. For organisations in Greece, Cyprus and Europe.

  • 40 didactic hours
  • Prerequisite: Green Belt
  • Live Online and in-company
Engineers reviewing a product prototype and design sketches

DMAIC or DMADV?

DMAIC improves a process that already exists. DMADV designs something new, or redesigns from scratch a process that cannot reach its targets through improvement.

DMAIC: improvement

  • The process exists and is measured
  • The problem is variation or waste
  • Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control

DMADV: design

  • A new product, service or process
  • The existing process has reached its limits
  • Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify

How you learn: a workshop, not a lecture

  • A design project throughout the course: you apply every DMADV phase, from the charter to validation.
  • Practical tools: SigmaXL and Excel for QFD, DOE, capability analysis and simulation.
  • MoodleCloud study: exercises, videos and extra study material.
  • Session recordings with 6 months’ access (Live Online cohorts).

Who it is for

  • Green Belts and Black Belts
  • Product and service designers
  • Engineers
  • Research and development
  • Process owners
  • Quality managers
  • New product teams

Certificate, certification and trainer

Participation is completed with a certificate of attendance from Greece Lean Six Sigma. The fee does not include a certification exam by an external body. How to get certified: see the Certification & Recognition page.

Optional ILSSI Design for Six Sigma certification: after the course you can sit the DFSS exam of the International Lean Six Sigma Institute (ILSSI): 50 multiple-choice questions, 1 hour, in English. The exam fee is paid separately. Greece Lean Six Sigma is an accredited partner of ILSSI.

Trainer: Victoria Tsolidou, Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, with 25+ years of international experience in Operational Excellence across industry, logistics, hospitality and services.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between DFSS and DMADV?

DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) is the overall approach to designing for quality. DMADV is the most widely used method to apply it, in five phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify.

Do I need Green Belt?

Yes, or equivalent knowledge of statistics and DMAIC. The programme builds on it.

Is it available in English?

The cohort runs in Greek. If you are interested in an English cohort, contact us.

Can it run in-company?

Yes, with the design project based on a real new product, service or process of your company.

Is certification included?

No. Participation is completed with a certificate of attendance. The certification exam is separate, with the body you choose.
